Engage in dynamic and meaningful dialogue on enhancing the opportunities for people with disabilities to live full, participatory lives within their local communities.
Each session will present a state's initiative to meet an outcome of creating individual supports, developing a quality assurance strategy, and crafting a plan to meet the needs of challenging individuals. Emphasis will be placed on how each state got there--what were the obstacles in the roadway and how were they overcome -- as well as what obstacles must still be faced.
Presenters will facilitate and involve attendees in educational dialogue enabling each one to refine their "road plan" for system reforms in their own state.
Dialogue will focus on seven specific questions:
(1) What factors prompted the need for change?
(2) What outcomes are desired?
(3) What is the impact on state policy?
(4) What key obstacles did you face in making change?
------ What obstacles did you overcome?
------ What obstacles do you still need to overcome?
(5) What are the financial costs and implications?
(6) What are the outcomes received to date?
(7) What are the perspectives of self-advocates that would bear weight on
the issues of change?
