NASDDDS is pleased to announce the 2010 National Policy Forum, hosted by our National Policy Work Group on May 3 at the Sheraton Baltimore Washington Airport Hotel. The NPWG will be welcoming Barb Edwards, brand new Director of the Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group (DEHPG) at CMS, as the principal guest. DEHPG oversees 1915(c) waiver policy and is the key part of the CMS Central Office that interacts with state DD service systems. Ms. Edwards brings to the position a wealth of experience and a strong policy mind and her energy and expertise will drive an ambitious DEHPG agenda in the coming months and years, including development of waiver policy, strengthening of quality assurance practices, defining home and community-based settings, implementing long term care reforms included in the recent health care law, improving employment outcomes, and more.
The National Policy Forum will provide an opportunity for the National Policy Work Group and all NASDDDS members who attend to interact directly with Ms. Edwards and her key staff, not only to hear from her how she plans to approach these goals, but also to provide important input to her and her staff and share the perspective from the states. Also invited are officials from the Medicaid Integrity Group and from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.
