• Range 84 ($74,047.20 – $124,603.20 Annually)
• Salary will be commensurate with experience and State of Alabama Personnel guidelines.

• Graduation with a Master’s degree or higher advanced degree in Nursing, with a clinical specialty in the appropriate area of practice. Must have successfully completed a Nurse Practitioner program recognized and approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing
• Possession of a current advanced practice nursing certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) granted by the Alabama Board of Nursing in the clinical specialty appropriate with the area of practice (Psychiatric experience highly desirable).
• This is a licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner position at a state mental health hospital specializing in the psychiatric forensic mentally ill patients.
• Provides ongoing care and treatment for forensic patients.
• Responds to emergency codes and provides support and expertise as needed.
• Attends and monitors assigned treatment team process.
• Participates in the development, utilization, and revision of practice guidelines for Nurse Practitioners to include peer review and quality assurance.
• Obtains comprehensive mental health assessment on forensic patients admitted to the facility, including an evaluation of mental status, history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, sexual behaviors, and social development.
• Assesses and evaluates changes in patient care and treatment, writes discharge orders, arranges and follows up as appropriate with community resources to enhance continuity and quality of care for forensic patients.
• Orders and interprets findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory tests and documents consultation with medical services.
• Performs other related duties.
• Knowledge of medical and psychiatric disorders.
• Knowledge of pharmacology and diagnostic and treatment procedures common to the care for mentally ill patients.
• Knowledge of the treatment planning process in providing comprehensive care for mentally ill patient.
• Knowledge of service guidelines for Nurse Practitioners to include peer review, performance improvement, and competency assessment.
• Ability to collect, interpret, evaluate, and respond to patient information.
• Ability to assess and identify changes in patients’ health and mental status.
• Ability to provide, direct, and coordinate therapeutic care and treatment to mentally ill patients.
• Ability to document and manage patient records in a complete and accurate manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, physicians, co-workers, and community resources in a manner that facilitates appropriate patient care.
• Ability to compile patient information and develop accurate reports.
• Ability to educate and inform patients, their families, staff, and others in areas that will promote knowledge, understanding, and effective management of patients’ mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.
• Ability to exercise professional judgment and make sound decisions.
• Applicants will be rated based on an evaluation of their job-related training, abilities, experience, and education, and should provide adequate work history identifying experiences related to the duties and minimum qualifications as mentioned above.
