California Bill Would Add Flat Tax on Managed Care Plans
According to a California Healthline article, California Assembly member Marc Levine introduced a bill that would impose a $7.88 monthly flat tax for each managed care plan enrollee. The tax would generate an estimated $1.9 billion in revenue, with $1.1 billion continuing to bring in federal matching funds. The funds generated from the tax would be used to:
- Help pay for home care services;
- Increase funding for programs that help individuals with developmental disabilities; and
- Raise Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid Program) provider reimbursement rates.
