Ohio Welcomes Family Liaison to Staff

Data continually affirms that over 75% of people with I/DD live with families, and more than 25% of family care providers are over the age of 60 years and another 38% are between 41-59 years (Braddock, Hemp, & Rizzolo, 2008).

Ohio DDD acted on the data regarding family caregivers noting that over 75% of people with I/DD live with families, and more than 25% of family care providers are over the age of 60 years and another 38% are between 41-59 years (Braddock, Hemp, & Rizzolo, 2008).  The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) recognizes the importance of this data and recently hired a Family Liaison in the Department.  Key responsibilities of this position are to:

  • Advocate for families when DODD is making policy and program decisions,
  • To be a resource,
  • To ensure that families have a seat at the table as DODD is making system changes,
  • To help navigate the system, and;
  • To connect families to resources.
