South Dakota’s Samantha Hynes Chosen as NASDDDS Gary Smith Scholarship Award Recipient

NASDDDS has awarded Ms. Samantha Hynes, MSW, MPH from South Dakota’s Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities the Gary Smith Scholarship Fund for Public Managers to attend the University of Delaware’s Leadership Institute July 15-20, 2018. This weeklong, leadership development program is designed for both current executive-level leaders and emerging leaders. The focus of the Institute is on assessing and strengthening leadership skills, setting organizational direction, and understanding the future of the intellectual/developmental disabilities field. 

Ms. Hynes has 10 years’ experience working with Medicaid Waiver programs. In 2015, she became the community Capacity Manager with the South Dakota Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities. As Community Capacity Manager, her focus has been the development of crisis supports as well as implementation of shared living. Prior to moving to South Dakota Sam lived in Florida where she was a case manager for adults diagnosed with HIV, and previous to that she lived in Colorado where she was a case manager for adults and children with ID/DD. Mss. Hynes holds two Masters Degrees; one in Public Health and the second in Social Work with an emphasis in organizational and community development.
