Census 2020 Resources

The Census is coming soon and it is critically important for people with disabilities to be counted. Data from the census directs billions of dollars in federal funding that includes services for people with disabilities and congressional representation.

The Arc and the National Disability Rights Network hosted a webinar in February to discuss the 2020 Census and how it relates to the disability community. The webinar began with a 2020 Census overview along with a summary of how the census affects policy decisions. The webinar also shared the resources and materials for a successful Get Out the Count (GOTC) effort. Speakers included Julie Ward from The Arc and Erika Hudson who is a Public Policy Analyst for the National Disability Rights Network.  The speakers also provided information on the accessibility features available to various communities to ensure the Census is inclusive of those with varying information needs. 

The Arc has also created a new factsheet to support chapters and provider organizations in understanding how group homes will be counted. There is a great deal of confusion about the process, because it can vary by region. This factsheet aims to clarify the census process for group home administrators.
