NASDDDS Welcomes New Board Member

Headshot Tony Green

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) is pleased to announce Tony Green (NE) as the newest board member- at-large elected by the membership at our most recent association business meeting. In March 2024, the NASDDDS Board of Directors voted to amend the bylaws of the association to add one at-large Board seat for a total of nine members moving forward. Tony Green was next in line for this seat based on the most recent member election held at the association annual meeting. The NASDDDS Board of Directors is responsible for administering the affairs of the association and establishing all organizational policies.

Tony Green (NE) was appointed as the Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) for Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in August 2020. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy Director and Interim Director. Tony has been advocating for and supporting Nebraska’s children and families for more than 30 years. His early career began as a direct support professional. Tony has held various leadership roles in Nebraska’s state disability system in addition to a community-based provider role as an Executive Director for Mosaic.

Tony has gained a vast knowledge in human services as he has also held roles within HHS overseeing adult and child protection, child support enforcement, economic assistance and juvenile services. Currently, in addition to his role as Director of DDD, Tony currently holds the interim director role for the Division of Behavioral Health.

Under Green’s leadership as the Developmental Disabilities Director, Nebraska has experienced numerous accomplishments to include the recent launch eliminating the state’s DD waiting list; implementation of person-centered planning and Charting the Life Course; the creation of single agency oversight for all 1915(c) waivers; consolidating the DD and Ageing systems; and, the implementation of a public/private partnership to oversee quality services for the aging and disability communities in Nebraska.

“I am delighted to welcome Tony to the Board,” said NASDDDS Executive Director, Mary Sowers. “Tony brings a breadth of experience and vast knowledge in the field which will truly compliment the stellar professionals currently serving the association. The change in board makeup will also support NASDDDS as we continue to strive to strategically support our members in an increasingly complex environment.”

The board is composed of four officers and five members-at-large. All board members are elected by the association membership. The officers serve concurrent two-year terms, while the board members-at-large serve staggered, three-year terms. See the current NASDDDS Board of Directors at THIS LINK.
