Team Spotlight: Teja Stokes

1. In what ways does your role help support the work of NASDDDS members?

I feel very fortunate to experience a variety of ways in which my work supports NASDDDS members. First, and undoubtedly my favorite, is when I get to work directly with state teams to design, implement, and problem-solve services for individuals with IDD, especially if we are focusing on process improvement, partner engagement, and quality outcomes. The second opportunity is collaborating internally with our NASDDDS team to create resources and tools to assist the efforts of our members around the country. Finally, it is my honor to be part of the NASDDDS leadership team, focusing on positioning the association today and tomorrow to best support the people who support the people.

2. What does a typical day look like for you as a member of the NASDDDS team?

I have to chuckle at this question a little bit because I don’t know that I’ve ever had a typical day while at NASDDDS! My days are chock-full, from direct member engagement via technical assistance projects to strategy meetings with our sister associations, federal officials, and other partners to internal time with NASDDDS colleagues to focus on creating content and developing business opportunities that provide the most value and impact for our state members. The good news is I wouldn’t have it any other way because the variety is exciting, and it ultimately connects to making the IDD service delivery system better for individuals and families!

3. What aspects of your work bring you the most joy, and what do you enjoy most outside your professional life?

I am delighted when my work results in anything positive and forward-thinking for states and the overall association. One of my most favorite aspects is visiting with each of our members and key partners at our policy symposiums and annual conferences. At home, my cup is filled by my wonderful family—Berkley, my best friend and husband of 35 years, my son, Walker, my daughter, Bronwyn, my son (in-law), Ryan, and my amazing 20-month-old granddaughter, Hudson Paige! I enjoy travel adventures and beach vacations but am just as happy curled up in my favorite chair with a good novel, crocheting gifts for special family and friends, or solving word puzzles.
